Enamel effect for miniatures & grimdark skin/mood effects
Caput Mortuum is a deep ruby/purple-red enamel wash/effect, designed to give your miniatures realistic, dark skin tones, vibrant back-and-forth subcutaneous discoloration, or weathered, dramatic areas. Ideal for medium to dark skin, traumatized creatures, sci-fi alien shading, or dark fantasy detail.
Deep red-purple shade for skin & effects:
The color has a rich, violet-red undertone – perfect for “bruise / under-skin / alien-skin” effects, or to make skin look realistic and “alive”.
Versatile – skin, creatures, armor, or atmospheric effects:
Although Caput Mortuum is primarily positioned as a flesh effect, it also works on armor, scales, clothing, or objects where you want to add subtle red/purple hues.
Satin to gloss finish:
Once dry, the wash has a satin to slightly glossy finish. This helps simulate damp skin, wear, or scuffed areas.
To be used with brush or airbrush (dilutable):
You can apply the wash directly with a brush, or – if diluted with thinner/mineral spirits – use it in your airbrush for larger applications or subtle gradations.
More pigment, better control:
The formulation provides sufficient pigment to achieve results with just a few coats, and is easy to manage during application and — if desired — for reductive removal or touch-ups.
