The Mawloc is a gigantic subterranean Tyranid bioform that bursts up from the depths to devour enemies. Where Termagants and Hormagaunts overwhelm the battlefield in numbers, the Mawloc brings pure monstrous terror: an enormous, serpent-like threat that emerges from the ground where the enemy least expects it.
Subterranean threat for your Tyranid army
On the battlefield, the Mawloc is ideal for players who want to expand their Hive Fleet with a large monster that puts pressure on positioning and objectives. Its theme revolves around ambushes, sudden attacks, and disrupting enemy lines.
The Mawloc fits well into aggressive Tyranid armies with gaunts, Warriors, Lictors, Raveners, and other bioforms that force the opponent to consider threats from all angles. It feels particularly strong in lists that aim to threaten the center of the table and flush enemy units out of safe positions.
Build as Mawloc or Trygon
This kit can be built as either a Mawloc or a Trygon. The Mawloc has the more horrific appearance, with an enormous open maw, multiple rows of teeth, and a body that writhes upwards as if just bursting from the earth.
The Trygon build, on the other hand, presents a more aggressive tunneling predator, with large claws and a cobra-like posture. This makes this box extra flexible for Tyranid players who want to choose between a more ambush-focused Mawloc or a brutal Trygon for direct monstrous pressure.
Painting fun with carapace, teeth, and alien basing
For painters, the Mawloc is an impressive project full of organic textures. The large carapace plates are perfect for sharp highlights, spots, stripes, or Hive Fleet patterns, while the maw, teeth, tongue, and underside offer plenty of room for slime, fleshy tones, and glossy effects.
The large oval base is ideal for making the model truly appear to emerge from the ground. Consider cracked earth, flung debris, Imperial floor plates, jungle ground, acidic pools, or alien biomass around the tunnel opening.
