Tactical Squads are the classic foundation of a Horus Heresy army. They bring reliable infantry, recognizable Legion aesthetics, and enough flexibility to fit into almost any army concept. Whether you want to build a large battleline, need multiple scoring units, or want to reinforce your Legion tactics around massed infantry: MkIV Tactical Marines are a solid starting point.
They suit all eighteen Space Marine Legions, from the strict discipline of the Ultramarines and Imperial Fists to the brutal advance of the World Eaters, the dark iconography of the Word Bearers, or the swift warfare of the Sons of Horus.
MkIV Maximus Armour with Classic Bolters
MkIV Maximus armour has a modern, streamlined look within the Horus Heresy setting. The smooth armour plates, distinctive helmets, and compact forms give the squad a different appearance than heavier MkIII or more archaic MkII units.
The models are ideal as a standard Tactical Squad with bolters, but also form a strong basis for veterans, sergeants, command conversions, or Legion-specific upgrades. By combining transfers, shoulder pads, helmets, and accessories, you can easily tailor the squad to your chosen Legion.
Painting Fun with Legion Colours and Heraldry
For painters, MkIV Tactical Marines are a pleasant project.
