Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – Legiones Astartes MkIV Assault Squad – 31-174
The Legiones Astartes MkIV Assault Squad brings fast jump pack infantry to Warhammer: The Horus Heresy. Clad in advanced MkIV Maximus armour, these Space Marines are built for aggressive assaults, swift flanking maneuvers, and storming enemy positions before the opposition can properly form their firing line.
Fast assault troops for the Age of Darkness
Assault Squads are ideal for Legiones Astartes players who want to give their army more mobility and close-combat pressure. Where Tactical Squads hold objectives and fight firefights, Assault Marines leap over obstacles to attack vulnerable units, artillery, support squads, and rear positions.
They fit into almost any Legion but feel extra thematic with armies that favor swift shock assaults: Blood Angels, World Eaters, Night Lords, Sons of Horus, Emperor’s Children, White Scars, and Raven Guard.
MkIV Maximus armour and Veteran Assault options
MkIV Maximus armour has a sleek, technologically refined appearance that perfectly suits the heyday of the Great Crusade and the civil war that followed. The armour plates, helmets, and jump packs give the squad a distinctly different look than MkIII or MkVI units.
The set can also be used to build Veteran Assault Marines with power lances. This gives the unit a more elite appearance and allows you to visually align them with Legion veterans, command forces, or a more ceremonial close-combat unit.
Painting fun with Legion colours and jump pack weathering
For painters, this squad is a strong foundation for dynamically developing Legion colours. The smooth MkIV armour plates are ideal for crisp edge highlights, transfers, campaign markings, and subtle weathering. The jump packs offer space for soot trails, heat discolouration, burnt metal edges, and damaged exhausts.
Bases with ruins, scorched earth, Zone Mortalis floors, dust clouds, shattered city terrain, or broken barricades reinforce the feeling of a squad landing mid-assault.
