Warhammer: The Old World – Grand Cathay – Iron Hail Gunners & Crane Gunner Teams – 06-215
The armies of Grand Cathay do not only rely on discipline, jade armour, and ancient martial arts. When the enemy needs to be stopped at a distance, the Iron Hail Gunners and Crane Gunner Teams step forward with the heavy gunpowder weapons from Cathay's artificer-houses.
Potent Firepower for Grand Cathay
This set provides your army with two different forms of ranged support. Iron Hail Gunners are ideal for shorter ranges, where their heavy firearms pressure enemy infantry and can slow down advancing units. They fit well into a defensive line or as mobile support alongside your larger blocks of Jade Warriors and Peasant Levy.
The Crane Gunner Teams fulfil a more specialised role. With their long weapons and large shields, they act as fixed firing points: perfect for threatening important targets, heavy armour, or monsters from a strong position on the battlefield.
Defensive Lines and Tactical Control
In a Grand Cathay army, much revolves around order, formation, and carefully choosing engagements. These gunners excellently reinforce that theme. They give your opponent something to consider before approaching your lines and help to make zones on the battlefield dangerous.
The combination of compact shooters and larger weapon teams also makes the set visually interesting within a regimental Cathay force. They form a nice transition between regular infantry and heavier war machines.
Painting Fun with Gunpowder, Metal, and Cathay Details
For hobbyists, this box offers a lot of variety. Think of dark metal barrels, weathered wooden stocks, jade accents, red or green uniforms, richly decorated shields, and traces of soot or powder around the weapons.
The Crane Gunner Teams are particularly suitable for giving extra attention to their large shields and long weapons, while the Iron Hail Gunners work well as a tightly ordered firing line. Bases with fortress stones, dry ground, snow along the Great Bastion, or dusty city roads fit excellently with the theme of Grand Cathay.
