Warhammer Age of Sigmar – Cities of Sigmar: Freeguild Grenadiers – 86-54
The Freeguild Grenadiers are hardened veterans of the Cities of Sigmar, specializing in the Freeguild's most dangerous work: fighting in narrow streets, ruins, tunnels, and besieged strongholds. With black-powder weapons, heavy bardiches, and incendiary charges, they break open enemy formations where regular line troops would get bogged down.
Heavy Close-Range Infantry
Where Steelhelms form the line and Fusiliers provide fire support from a distance, Freeguild Grenadiers are built for aggressive close-quarters combat. Their equipment combines explosives, firearms, and sturdy grenadier bardiches, making them ideal for dislodging enemies from objectives, ruins, and narrow passages.
Within a Cities of Sigmar army, they fit perfectly alongside a defensive core of Steelhelms, Gallants, or Fusiliers. They can reinforce the line, but also be sent forward to exert pressure in the thickest of the fight.
Ruin-Sweepers and Brutal Firepower
The Grenadiers carry black-powder weapons known as ruin-sweepers: a dangerous mix of scattershot blasters, bombs, and short-range weapons perfect for confined-space combat. A unit can also be bolstered by a Cindergout, equipped with a flame-hurler to burn enemies out of cover.
This makes the unit particularly suitable for urban combat, sieges, and campaigns in devastated areas. They feel like soldiers who have seen too much, but know exactly how to violently clear an enemy position.
Veterans with Character
The models have a rugged, professional appearance that clearly differs from regular Freeguild troops. They wear heavy equipment, practical weapons, and enough details to portray them as hardened specialists within your army.
Each Grenadier has a choice of two heads: helmeted or unhelmeted. The champion can be built with a pair of pistols or with a pistol and bludgeon, allowing you to give the unit extra personality.
Painting Opportunities for Soot, Steel, and City Heraldry
For painters, Freeguild Grenadiers offer a nice mix of weathered metal, thick fabric, leather straps, black-powder details, and fire damage. Think of soot marks around weapons, scorched cloaks, dark city uniforms, and subtle color accents in the heraldry of your Free City.
They fit perfectly with themes such as Greywater Fastness, Hammerhal Aqsha, Embergard, or a custom city specializing in siege warfare, tunnel fighting, and dangerous reconnaissance missions.
