Citadel Layer: Dawnstone is a mid-light, neutral grey tone ideal for highlights, layered transitions, and refining stone, armour, fabric, and mechanical details. This colour sits nicely between darker grey basecoats and lighter highlights like Administratum Grey, making it a strong intermediate step in almost any grey colour scheme.

For controlled highlights and depth

As a Layer paint, Dawnstone is designed to be applied over a basecoat or previous layer. The paint builds up well in thin layers, allowing shadows to remain visible while giving the model more definition. Use it, for example, on rocks, ruins, weapons, vehicles, uniforms, and armour plates.

Versatile for fantasy and sci-fi

Dawnstone is a practical colour for both Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar. In sci-fi armies, it works well for industrial armour, metal constructions, concrete bases, and weathered machine parts. For fantasy miniatures, it is ideal for stonework, cloaks, skin details on greyish creatures, skulls, and terrain elements.

Strong combination with other greys

This shade combines excellently with darker colours such as Mechanicus Standard Grey and lighter accents such as Administratum Grey. This allows you to quickly build up a natural grey gradient, from deep shadow to sharp edge highlights. Thin the paint slightly and work with multiple thin layers for a smooth, matte finish.
