Ciaphas Cain, Hero of the Imperium, is the most famous commissar who would rather not be in mortal danger, but mysteriously always finds himself in the thick of it. Together with his loyal aide Gunner Ferik Jurgen, he forms a characterful addition to the Astra Militarum: full of humour, hero worship, propaganda, and just enough genuine bravery to maintain his reputation.
An Iconic Duo for Astra Militarum
This set is perfect for Astra Militarum players and Black Library fans who want to bring one of Warhammer 40,000’s most beloved characters to the tabletop. Cain has the look of a classic Imperial commissar, complete with sabre, greatcoat, and confident demeanour.
Jurgen adds a down-to-earth Valhallan contrast, armed with his recognisable melta and dressed for cold war zones. Together, they immediately feel like a narrative command duo for campaigns, display pieces, or characterful games.
Can be built as a duo or separate models
The miniatures can be placed together on a single scenic diorama base, or built separately. This makes the set flexible: build them as a compact display model, or place Cain and Jurgen individually on the table to better suit your army’s setup.
As models, they bring a lot of character to an Astra Militarum collection, especially alongside Cadian Shock Troops, Valhallan themes, command squads, tanks, and artillery. Cain works excellently as a striking commissar, while Jurgen is a nice narrative addition to any Imperial Guard force.
Painting fun with commissar uniform and Valhallan details
For painters, this set offers a fun mix of crisp uniform details and weathered soldier’s gear. Cain lends himself perfectly to black commissar attire, red accents, gold details, a gleaming sabre, and a heroic yet slightly theatrical appearance.
Jurgen, on the other hand, provides scope for weathered winter clothing, leather, metal, melta effects, and snowy or muddy basing. You can add extra atmosphere to the diorama setup with rubble, ice, trench boards, industrial flooring, or a remote Imperial outpost theme.
