In The Baldurian Inquisition, the uprising in Baldur has been brutally suppressed, but peace is further away than ever. After the attacks incited by Tomas Lumens' followers, the Crown responds with brutal force: the Inquisition is given free rein to hunt down anyone suspected of rebellion, treason, or hidden sympathy for the uprising.

A grim 5E adventure full of oppression and paranoia

This 5E campaign forms Liberty or Death Pt II and is designed for characters from level 5 to 6. The adventure takes place in the aftermath of Cogs of Revolution, where the ideals of freedom and equality have been drowned out by fear, retribution, and military control.

The atmosphere is grimdark and politically charged. Inquisitors march through the streets, citizens whisper behind closed doors, and every encounter can lead to betrayal, interrogation, or violence. For players, this means a campaign where choices weigh heavily: do they fight against oppression, try to protect the innocent, or become entangled in a conflict where no side is entirely clean?

Grimhelm under the Eye of the Inquisition

The city of Grimhelm forms a major focal point of the repression. Here, the hunt for rebels, arcanists, and alleged conspirators is at its most brutal. The Inquisition presents itself as the protector of order and crown, but uses fear as a weapon to turn the populace against each other.

For Dungeon Masters, this adventure offers plenty of room for investigation, social tension, and tactical encounters. Think of secret cells, nighttime raids, interrogations, smuggling routes, hidden allies, and confrontations with fanatical knights who value their mission more than justice.

New Player Option: Oath of Judgment Paladin

In addition to the main adventure, The Baldurian Inquisition includes the new Oath of Judgment Paladin subclass. This paladin is judge and executioner in one: a ruthless warrior who marks the guilty, exposes lies, and punishes enemies with holy conviction.

The subclass fits perfectly with the harsh themes of this campaign but can also be interesting for players who want to play a paladin with a strict moral compass, menacing presence, and strong focus on retribution.

This 5E campaign includes a 104-page campaign PDF for characters of level 5–6. The adventure is designed for approximately 3 to 6+ play sessions, depending on play style, group size, and how much room the Dungeon Master allows for roleplay, investigation, and side quests.
